Bounty Hunter Tracker IV

Bounty Hunter Tracker IV

The Tracker IV is very affordable and comes with only two simple operating controls and a mode selection switch. Like many Bounty Hunter products, this detector features a submersible, 8” searchcoil. This is possible thanks to Bounty Hunters renowned BOUNTY D-Tech search coils. The following information comes from our own experience with the Tracker IV, and is meant to help those who are thinking about getting one for the first time as well as those who already have one.

The model we’re featuring comes standard with an 8” open-face, waterproof coil. Both larger and smaller coils are available in the accessories area for this metal detector, but the 8” is a great place to start. This searchcoil is versatile and deep-seeking, making it effective for any type of detecting. Because it is waterproof, you can submerge this coil into water without any adverse affect on the operation of the detector – this is perfect for hunting in the shallow waters of beaches and rivers as well as on land!

The Tracker IV has three different and simple operating modes, all of which are fully adjustable. To detect every type of metallic treasure, select the “Motion All-Metals” mode. To reject iron and most trash items such as tabs and cans, select the “Full Discrimination” mode. The “Tone Discrimination” mode allows two different audio pitches to indicate your different treasure finds, while the “Sensitivity Meter” allows you to really customize your search.

After a little practice you’ll be able to hear the difference in your various finds! Because the Tracker IV has a ¼” headphone jack on the control panel, almost any stereo-type headphone-set can be used with the Tracker IV.

Hi' I would like to say that the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV is the best metal detector for my money I have ever used. I own a $5000.00 detector and over the same time my little coin detector has found me more then I payed for them both. It lives in the trunk of my car, so good luck you won't need it with the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV. Thanks for every thing.

As a coin collector, I've always had an interest in finding old coins. I loved finding the occasional wheat penny or buffalo nickel in my change or on the ground in an old building, but it wasn't until I received a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV as a gift that I realized I could find lots of unusual and rare coins in an enjoyable and exciting way.

The Tracker IV was up and running in a few minutes and the control knobs and sensitivity meter were easy to understand even for a beginner. With an afternoon of trying the 3 different operating modes (Motion All-Metals, Full Discrimination, and Tone Discrimination), I was able to get a quick feel for identifying treasure from trash. The included 8" coil is fully submersible and easy to install. I actually dug up my first dime after about five minutes of trying out my new detector. What a great feeling that is. I found it was also very helpful to put various kinds of metal down around the house and use them to train myself to listen for the more wanted tones.

Although the Tracker IV is more of an entry-level detector, it has proven to be quite powerful and frequently locates coins and jewelry several inches below the surface. The discrimination modes help to weed out the obvious junk and are adequate for those not wanting to pay extra for a detector with more bells and whistles. I recommend this detector as a great way to get started in metal detecting without breaking your budget.

Experience is the best teacher ! With my experience in metal detecting, I have seen many a detector with flashy symbols, lights, gauges, and colors, but not many have surpassed the ease and expertise with which this simply styled, yet extremely reliable and precise, Bounty Hunter Tracker IV metal detector guide you to your finds. Whether they are silver, gold, copper or bronze, no metals escape the bloodhound accuracy of this light, little treasure.

I was amazed at the heavy amount of finds I was able to uncover, without paying the heavy duty price of a very heavy machine. I once swung this little beauty for 6 hours straight, and my arm was no less the wear than when I started. The meter and discrimination settings were easily adjusted, controlled, and and able to be read, consistently yielding finds on wet or dry, sand, soil, and dirt. The auto ground balance was a big help, and allowed me the time to enjoy detecting, rather than fiddling with controls.

I have never experienced problems finding the target with my tracker IV. I found numerous silver coins at nearly 2 feet in the sand, and gold rings, pendants, and other goodies, even deeper than that ! Consistently finding good targets, you have to rely on what this machine tells you. If you don't hear a strong, steady, signal, and decide to dig, you will only spend hours of backbreaking work digging up total trash. With the discrimination set to just past 12:00, it sets aside all the garbage, and has no problem separating the small time clad pennies from the nickels, quarters, silver, and gold. A strong, distinct, high tone usually means a silver find, and a strong, low tone usually means gold, dimes, quarters, but watch out, you will dig plenty of pull tabs, rolled up aluminum foil, and cigarette boxes, as these usually masquerade themselves as gold, when passed under a detector.

When using this machine in busy park areas, I also recommend using the smaller 4" coil, as it helps with pinpointing targets in litter ridden areas. All things considered, I say that the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV is one of the best, if not the best, deals around in the metal detecting hobby, it will give you more hours of enjoyment than you could ever hope for. I give this tracker IV a perfect score when it comes to meeting all your expectations !

The Bounty Hunter Tracker IV is by far the best detector for the money. At one point I thought bigger was better and spent money on a upper level bounty hunter, but it sits in the garage. This detector is a turn on and go-no ground balance no mistakes. I have done all types of detecting but prefer relics and artifact (military and fur trade). This detector works well in the water and on land. It's only fault is that you can't detect in the rain-spent many days with a garbage bag tied around the housing, still waiting for a waterproof model. I have found all kind of great artifact from cannon balls, Spanish silver to copper culture artifacts. This detector gave me some best finds in western and eastern treasure a few years ago Hudson bay button and 29 regiment of foot button. I had a friend who swore by the Fisher but after several years secretly bought the tracker IV. I did purchase a 10 inch coil and have found fur trade buttons a 12 inches. If you are a newbie or old timer you cant go wrong with this detector!

In his younger days, my husband was a avid coin shooter, heading out to Lake Michigan each AM to comb the beaches there. At that time he owned a number of high end detectors and would never consider using what he called a lower end detector.

However, over the years and jobs the beach detecting gave way to life problems and the high end detectors became dust collectors, so they went to the bargain bin. Years later as we went on yearly camping trips I kept asking him to get another detector, but his reply was that they were all just too expensive and he wasn't sure just how the newer models operated, being as in his day, you just turned it on and it would beep when ya got to metal. Too darn fancy and cost way too much, he would say.

Then one day I found a used Bounty Hunter Tracker IV on eBay and placed a bid and darn if I didn't get it. I wasn't sure what my husband's reaction would be, when I presented this detector to him. He says " Looks complicated"....."way too light"....."nothing but a toy", however he did sit and begin to read the instructions.

The next day he was in the front yard, and within 5 minutes he found his first coin. It was just a wheat penny, but from the look he gave me, I knew he was 25 years old and back at the beach. He had to show me all the things that these newer model detectors could do, and I have to admit, that it is a user friendly detector.

That Bounty Hunter has made many a camping trip with us and the ease of operation still amazes me. My husband retired this year and he has his next detector on order, but that iwill be his story.

Received the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV as a gift. It works reasonably well for my current needs. I have used two different White detectors owned by friends and when I am in the market for a new detector I will be evaluating the White line of detectors for my next purchase.

The Bounty Hunter Tracker IV is a beginner level detector, selling for around $140, but you probably find one cheaper. This was one of the first detectors that I owned. I chose it for two reasons, one, the price. It was one of the cheapest detectors that I could find out there. The second reason was that it looked like it would do the job. The Tracker IV's control panel has a sensitivity knob, a discrimination knob and a target indicator meter. The Tracker IV has 3 different modes of detecting and automatic ground balancing.

What I liked about the Tracker IV was that it was so simple to use. With it I found a gold bracelet and a lot of change. You really don't need to practice using the Tracker IV. Basically, you can turn it on and go. You don't need to set up any buttons.

What I don't like about the Tracker IV is that it lacks a lot of features. I does not have a depth meter. Without the depth meter I found that I was unable to get an accurate depth of the target and didn't know how far down to dig. Also, the Tracker IV does not have a pinpointing option. My holes were bigger than they should have been with out a pinpointing feature. Another thing that the Tracker IV is lacking is target ID. I personally like to have a relative idea of what I'm digging.

As, you can see the Tracker IV lacks a lot of features. If you want the basic detector with no bells and whistles for an extremely cheap price than the Tracker IV is a great buy for you. Don't expect alot of features with the Tracker IV. Overall, I would give the Tracker IV 3 stars. Thumbs up for the price, but thumbs down for the features.

My friend was given a Tracker IV for his birthday when he was about ten. I met him when we were both 12. Now we are each 14 and getting into treasure hunting. We have gone MD'ing numerous times with his metal detector and are having a wonderful time. We primarily coin shoot and are getting into relic hunting old sites.

The Bounty Hunter Tracker IV is the best entry level/intermediate detector. Although it does not have the bells and whistles of a more expensive detector like the Ace 250, it is almost as good, especially for the price. It has extremely good depth for a machine in it's price range; I have found coins at a depth of 8-9 inches, much deeper than most things I dig. It's controls are simple to operate but helped me learn how to work more complex machines.

The 2-tones are great, a low tone for junk and a high tone for coins, jewelry and other valuables. If the low tone sounds, it is always junk. The tones are very reliable, I don't think I have ever heard that junk sound and dug a good piece. This machine has good discrimination and it nice and simple to use, perfect for the beginner, but also great for an experts backup machine or anyones intermediate machine. The coil is great, it detects from tip to tip.

It is also waterproof. It is lightweight and can be abused without breaking. Only requires 2 9-volt batteries. I could use this detector for the rest of my life and have no complaints about it. This is by far the best beginner/intermediate machine because it is so simple yet at the same time so sophisticated, with the reliable tones and small discrimination. I am amazed at how good this detector is and recommend it to everyone!

The Bounty Hunter Tracker 4 was my first metal detector. I was egger to try it out but It was the dead of winter here in Ohio and the ground was frozen solid.

I downloaded every treasure tale and metal detecting tip sheet I could get my hand on.

Once the weather had broken I was off on the hunt. It seems to work exceptionally well on hills I detected. I would go to all the sled riding hills and cash in on the lost change from the sled rider wiped outs. I kept the sensitivity around 1/2.

I decided to go on the beach areas near my home. I found an array of bottle caps; pull tabs and an occasional penny or nickel.

The controls on the Tracker 4 are simple to understand. The unit is balanced well and was not to heavy to swing for several hours. It is powered by two 9 volt batteries. I get about a half season of detecting before needing to replace the batteries. The coil is waterproof and can be submerged up to the electronics without any problem. I found that the tracker 4 worked well in shallow water as well as in the park. The meter is helpful in indicating the type of target located.

This detector is in the beginner category metal detector but I have found some of my most valuable finds with it. I have passed it on to my son who continues to mark good targets with it. I purchased a more advanced model.

I got hooked on metal detecting with this machine as you might too. If your looking to try metal detecting and don't want to spend a lot of money to find out if you might like the sport, I would suggest a Bounty Hunter Tracker 4.
