Fisher F2

Fisher F2

The Fisher F2 features a large control panel with seven big push buttons and an equally big display. The control panel is very simple to operate, making this an excellent detector for beginners.

On the control housing you will see both a two (2) digit display and a target category readout on the top showing items from iron/foil to nickels, to dimes, quarters, etc. An arrow will illuminate under the target category and a two digit number will show specific target value that helps you identify your target. Anyone can pick up the Fisher F2 and start detecting right away.

The F2 features “Notch Discrimination” which allows you to pinpoint an item and prevent the detector from detecting it again (great for those pesky pull tabs!). It has an “All Metals” mode which is great for scanning parks, beaches and old home sites for coins and jewelry while still ignoring old scrap iron. Meanwhile the depth readout will tell you exactly how deep to dig for your target.

The sensitivity of this machine has earned rave reviews from both first time users and experienced detectorists. It has found items as deep as 10” in various soil types with medium sensitivity. Meanwhile the Pinpointing feature allows you to hone in on specific items. The 4” coil makes hunting in trash areas a breeze, and tested hot on 3 grain gold nuggets – meaning this machine is good for prospecting as well!

The light weight of the Fisher F2 combined with the adjustable arm cuff will keep you hunting for hours! Headphone jack is conveniently located on the bottom of the unit and is weather protected to stay safe in various hunting conditions.

I mostly hunt for coins and jewelry and I've found the Fisher F2 Metal Detector is easy to get acquainted with. It is simple to assemble and uses two (2) Alkaline 9 volt batteries.

The F2 comes with a 1/4 inch headphone jack conveniently located on the left side of the detector. Operating controls are as follows: Sensitivity control, Discrimination control, Pinpoint control, and Notch control. A four (4) Tone Audio System helps to identify targets along with a Depth and Target display. On the control housing you will see both a two (2) digit display and a target category readout on the top showing items from iron/foil to nickels, to dimes, quarters, etc. An arrow will illuminate under the target category and a two digit number will show specific target value that helps you identify your target. Together with the tone and digital readout this is a great detector to use and it is light enough swing all day!

The detector comes with an eight (8) inch spider type coil and a 4 inch coil with an extra bottom rod. The smaller coil is excellent when working those tight or trashy areas and from what I've see it gets excellent depth.

After you have found a target and identified it you can use the pinpoint mode to isolate its location. Press and hold the Pinpoint to activate this feature. This is a static detection; no coil motion is required to detect when pinpoint is depressed.

The Notch feature is one I especially like. This control allows you to selectively include or exclude target categories from detection. The manual is pretty good at describing how this works. By using the notch and discrimination controls you may program any combination of detected and eliminated target categories. This takes some practice but is very helpful when you find yourself working an area with junk items sometimes.

My experience with this detector has been nothing but pure delight. Now I find myself using it more than the more expensive one I own. Depth and sensitivity is equal to detectors costing hundreds more. I have to give this Fisher F2 a rating of five stars. It is excellent in all areas I feel.

I have been detecting for over 20 years and have used several types of metal detectors. I just recently purchased a Fisher F2 as a back up detector which I mostly keep in my car for those locations that just can't wait. I mostly hunt for coins in any location I can find. Local parks, old homesites, vacant lots, medians of streets, etc. or just about anywhere people frequent or hang out. Old home sites are my favorite but are getting harder to find in my area with all the development.

The Fisher F2 is simple to set up and use and I like the automatic features on it. I guess you could say you can "turn it on and go" with it.

My first impression of the detector was that it was a quality made detector. I especially like the locking nuts on the stem that helps secure the sections. Also, my detector came with an extra lower stem and 4 1/2 inch search coil. This smaller search coil is super in trashy areas and gives very good depth. The detector is very easy to set up and comes with a very good instruction manual.

The F2 has features found on higher priced models such as "Notch" discrimination, which I really like. The notch feature comes in handy when you are searching an area that has many specific junk items like those pesky bent pulltabs. All you have to do is scan a bent pulltab, then press notch and it is discriminated out. The detector is baaically a discrimination type and the only real "all metal" mode I found is to simply not discriminate out any items. This works for me because I almost exclusively search for coins and jewelry. With no items discriminated out I found it to work as good for all metal items as my other detector I might mention. It is easy to adjust for discrimination mode and pinpointing is very easy with the "Pinpoint" button. All you have to do is push the button in and scan your find. In the pinpoint mode it shows you the approximate depth of your target.

Another great feature of this detector is that it has a 2 diget Target Identification indicator. This is only found on higher end units up until now and this is a very useful feature. Normally you can do a little work and by using the 2 digit indicator be pretty accurate on your finds. I've found that I can really eliminate a lot of junk items using this. Along with the 2 digit Target Identification numbers you also have icons on top of the screen to also show if it is a nickel, tab, dime, quarter, etc. The detector also shows you the depth by a bar on the right as you search and it passes over a target. As to depth of this detector I have found it to be as deep detecting as much more expensive detectors and very accurate in telling me what the item is and the approximate depth.

Although I bought this detector as a second back up unit I now find myself getting it out first even though I have another Fisher F4 that is a super detector. I would not hesitate to recommend this detector to the beginner or the veteran detectorist. It gets the job done and I want to thank Fisher and First Texas for another great coin finder!

I like searching for relics, coins, and jewelry. I have used several detectors over the years, and I am getting back into detecting again. I decided to try the Fisher F-2, and it seems to work very well. The sensitivity is awesome, and it’s really a deep shooter! The LCD readout is easy to see and the detector is very lightweight, and your arm doesn't tire out. I really like the four inch coil for shooting through the trash.

I have found items at about six inches in different soil types with minimum sensitivity. I find the discrimination works well with the touch pad adjustment. All the controls are easy to use and arranged nicely on the face plate. Pinpointing is a breeze and the control is in easy reach with the thumb. I have found coins and relics with this detector.

The oldest thing I have found with this detector is a spoon stamped pat. I also found 10/1 solid Egyptian silver. The ease of changing coils by changing the lower shaft is a great idea, and you don't have to worry about losing any hardware. The batteries last quite a long time and are easily changed through a little trapdoor battery compartment. It also has an adjustable arm cuff, with great ergonomics on the s shaped handle and shaft assembly. The headphone jack is on the bottom side and weather protected.

I rate this detector very good for the beginner and novice alike, whether you are just starting out or have been detecting for a while, and want a good back up detector. It is awesome for the low price or those who want to get started and no a budget. This detector will pay for its self with the finds you make and good for your health too!

Hello. My wife bought be a metal detector for Christmas and I have always wanted one. When I was a kid my dad had a Whites metal detector and I always wanted to use it and being a little kid he never let me touch it. I told my wife the story's and Last December I got a great surprise A new Fisher F2.

The Fisher is a great machine built very well and sturdy. When I got my new metal detector it came with a new 4" search coil that I thought was very neat and very nice of Fisher to throw that in with the deal.
The ease of use with the Fisher is second to none. Pretty much push one button and your hunting for lost treasure. However it also has a lot of features to use as well. You can set your discrimination to take out what you don't want to hunt for so if your a coin shooter your not digging up pull tabs all day. One of the features that I like the most is that it has a pinpoint to make finding your coins in a smaller search area and that is nice for the new guy just starting out. The screen display is a nice adder to with the VDI to let you know what you have found and is very accurate along with the depth meter.

The 4" coil that comes with it makes hunting trashy areas a breeze. Also don't forget that the 4" coil tested hot on 3 grain gold nuggets as well so you can take this thing out prospecting as well. This machine is a hot machine all around. Very deep I have found coins up to 9"-10" deep and with a entry level $250.00 machine your not going to find that anywhere else.
My finds with the Fisher F2 have surpased what I thought I would be able to to find to this point. I have found Wheat Pennies ranging from 1919-1958, Silver dimes from 1945-1953, my first Buffalo nickle 1936 (In my heart my best find), Silver ring 925, and a cashe that had 9 one dollar coins it it wasn't silver yet still a great find.

If anyone out there wants to get into a great detector and not spend a lot of money the Fisher F2 is great I love it and now I have my own proud and joy to swing along side my dad.

Thanks for letting me share my story of my metal detector.

The Fisher F2 is a entry level detector that usually sells for around $200. It features a big control panel, with big buttons and big display. Good for old eyes. The control panel is very, very simple. There are only seven buttons on the control panel. A plus and minus button for both discrimination and sensitivity, a pin point button, a power button and a notch button. The control panel will show numbers from 1-99 based on the type of metal being detected.

What I like about the F2 is its simplicity. Not to many buttons, simple design and easy to use. Basically, anyone can pick the F2 up and start detecting right away. I also like that it gets good depth for such a low priced detector. I've had finds up to about 6 inches. I've noticed that if you turn the sensitivity to the max you will have a better luck.

What I don't really like about the F2 is it's pinpointing. It's not very accurate or easy to use. I also don't like the battery life on the F2. I once used my F2 for about 4 hours and the battery level was half gone.

I used the F2 at some school yards and parks. I found about 4 dollars in clad coins, a bunch of fake metal jewelry and a silver ring!

Overall, the F2 is a really good beginner detector thats great on the wallet. Its such a simple machine to use and works great. I give the the F2 4 stars, because the pinpointing feature was not really to my liking. If you want an easy to use, simple detector that you can turn on and go, the F2 is for you.

The Fisher F2 surpassed all my expectations for my first detector. Simple to use, reliable, and best of all - it works! The F2 has no problem reaching down to find old relics and coins; in unploughed land I found button and coin sized objects down to 11 inches at max sensitivity, and larger iron relics much deeper. I had no problem finding old copper and silver coins (200+ years old), flat buttons, buckles, axe heads along with countless other relics.
Some features, such as the pinpointing take some getting used to - when pinpointing a target, there seems to be a trick to it. First use your pinpoint button and use the X technique; release the pinpoint button and then swing the detector over the target again, then re pinpoint. This, for reasons unknown, greatly increases the pinpointing accuracy.
The detectors only really down side is that using it at max sensitivity creates a very annoying "chatter" when the coil hits an object like a corn stalk, clump of grass etc, especially in wet conditions.
This detector will give a beginner everything they want and more, and won't be hard on your wallet if you aren't sure if metal detecting is your thing, or you are buying this for a child or spouse to introduce them to the hobby.

I really like my Fisher F2. I mostly use it for parks and lot's. although i haven't found any silver coins yet did find my first wheat Pennie with it. The F2 is a good all around detector for the first timer. it's easy to use. The id screen really helps with targets. The F2 is also a coin magnet. I've found tons of clad change with it. Enough to keep batteries stocked up for awhile.
thanks Kellyco for your excellent service. and keep up the good work by sponsoring television shows like Finders Keepers 2. if i did not see the show I would have never known KellyCo existed.

Hello I was searching for a unit that would fit my budget of under $300.00 and as I researched everything from bounty hunter to Garrett I came back to the Fisher F2. To my surprise it has performed better then I thought. With my experience lacking, this was very easy to learn and the controls allowed you to learn quickly. I like the pinpointing. It took a little time to get used of it but I could rely on the target to be in a 6" radius, and to me that's pretty good. I've found a number of .925 silver of modern day. But they were coming in under the Tab category. My oldest coin to date is a 1898 Indian Head. I found four in one day at and old school yard play ground. But no silver coins.
After one season with the Fisher F2 I can't wait to get back out there. It's proven it's worth to me. I would highly recommend it for the starter or a budget minded hunter.
Good Luck
